How to measure for a special order traditional kilt
For Men's or Women's Kilts
Do not use previous kilt sizing or pant sizing to order. Whether it is your first time or 10th time ordering a kilt, you want to measure as if it was the 1st.
Sizing / Measuring
It is extremely important you follow our measuring video and order the size you need based on your measurement, not pants size. All of men's pants are labeled 2-4 inches smaller than what they actually measure. Please see our measuring video below or checkout or measuring page here.
The size that you choose for your order will be the smallest setting on the buckle straps (i.e. a size 36 adjusts from a 36 up to just under a 39.5). Depending on where you want the buckle to end on your waist will determine your size. A good rule of thumb to follow is to go down 1-2 inches from your measured waist size. That will put you in the middle of the buckle straps (i.e. 39 or 40 measured would order a 38).
Length Measurement:
This really is personal preference. While some say that a kilt, traditionally speaking, should come to high knee, we firmly believe that you should order what is comfortable. A good rule we recommend following if you are new to kilts is going with what your current pair of shorts are. If they are high, mid, or low knee, use them to figure out how long you want it and measure to that point.
Returns
If you follow our measuring video in the videos section below, you will get a kilt that fits. Because this is a custom order item it is not eligible for returns or exchanges due to mis-measuring.
How to measure for a kilt with out measuring the waist.
We DO NOT recommend ordering a special order kilt without measuring. Because these are not eligible for returns, if you get the incorrect size, you will end up with a kilt that you can't return and possibly not be able to use.

Fly plaid and Ladies Sash
The fly plaid is worn with a kilt jacket over the left shoulder. Typically it is only worn for very formal events.
The Ladies sash can be worn in many different ways, but is most commonly worn over the shoulder and then pinned near the hip.
It is recommended to order these now if you ever think you will want them. Ordering them later is possible, but they may or may not be from the same die lot of fabric you currently have.
Sizing / Measuring
It is extremely important you follow our sizing chart at the top of this listing. Guessing or basing your size on other kilt sizes will almost guarantee you get the wrong size. Remember: These are sized with the smallest size being the size ordered. If you order a size 36, it will adjust from a 36 to a size 39.5
We recommend ordering 1-2 inches smaller than what you measure so that you end up closer to the middle of the straps. That will allow you to adjust up or down.
