Frequently Asked Questions - UT Kilts, lowest price Scottish kilts

Sizing Questions

NO!  Jeans size almost never equal your kilts size.  That is because jeans are labeled 2-4 inches smaller than what they actually are.  Visit our Sizing Chart to get help with measuring for our kilts.  If you choose not to measure and guess your size, you will be responsible for shipping both ways to get a replacement kilt.

On our Sizing Sizing Chart you will find instructions on how to make an educated guess on the size the person might need.  Keep in mind that it is only a guess.  There is really no substitute for not measuring the persons waist.

This is something that does happen on occasion.  I have a lot of experience dealing with several different shipping companies.  One thing I have learned is that not a single one of them guarantee their deliver dates 100%.  I know most companies give you a day that it will be delivered, but lots of things could happen that might prevent it from arriving on time.  Just remember that almost all my packages arrive when they are suppose to, but occasionally one might not be on time.

While we do ship to most countries around the world, not all are included on our approved shipping list.  If your country does not come up, send us a message and we can most likely add it

Traditional Kilts vs. Utility Kilts

A traditional kilt is the classic style most people picture when they think of a kilt. It’s typically made from wool, but less expensive options like polyviscose or acrylic are also available. Traditional kilts use more fabric than utility kilts, resulting in more pleats and deeper pleats. They are worn for many occasions, including weddings, Highland Games, and other cultural or formal events. Traditional kilts are secured with straps and buckles and do not have built-in pockets, so a sporran is used for carrying essentials. Accessories such as kilt hose, flashes, and jackets are often worn to complete the outfit.

Key features of a Traditional Kilt:

  • Typically wool, but also available in polyviscose or acrylic
  • Uses more fabric than a utility kilt (more pleats, deeper pleats)
  • Worn for weddings, Highland Games, and other formal or cultural events
  • Secured with straps and buckles (no built-in pockets)
  • Usually paired with sporran, hose, flashes, and other traditional accessories

A utility kilt is built for practicality and versatility. They are made from durable fabrics such as poly-cotton, polyviscose, ripstop, or acrylic. Utility kilts are usually secured with snaps or Velcro for easy adjustments, though some designs also include buckles and straps like traditional kilts. One of their most notable features is storage — utility kilts have multiple pockets, often large cargo-style pockets, in various configurations for carrying everyday items.

Key features of a Utility Kilt:

  • Made from poly-cotton, polyviscose, ripstop, or acrylic
  • Usually secured with snaps or Velcro, sometimes buckles and straps
  • Many different pockets for storage, often large cargo-style
  • Designed for everyday wear and active use
  • Less formal overall, but still worn by many for weddings and special occasions

While utility kilts are generally considered less formal, many people choose to wear them for weddings, formal events, and special occasions because of their comfort and modern style. Traditional kilts offer a timeless, heritage-based look, while utility kilts provide a more functional and casual approach. Both styles have their place — the right choice depends on the occasion, your needs, and your personal style.
