Genesis Tartan Collection

Step back in time with our traditional kilts, crafted from the prestigious Genesis Tartan Collection by House of Edgar. This collection pays homage to tartan’s rich history, featuring six historically significant patterns that predate the uniformity of clan setts. From Scotland’s oldest true tartan to designs linked to military use and the Jacobite Rising of 1745, each tartan in this collection tells a unique story of Scottish heritage and craftsmanship.

Woven from 100% lambswool in a durable mediumweight 13oz fabric, these kilts offer both comfort and authenticity. The cloth is available in double width, featuring strong tuck-in selvedges, making it ideal for kiltmaking.

For kilts made from the Jacobite Remnant and Lost Tartan patterns, we recommend purchasing an extra yard of fabric due to their large sett sizes, ensuring the best fit and proper pattern alignment.

Kilts crafted from the Royal Archers tartan are best pleated to the stripe, maintaining the traditional look and historical accuracy of this distinguished pattern.

Whether for formal occasions, Highland gatherings, or personal heritage celebrations, these kilts allow you to wear and cherish a special moment from Scotland’s storied past.

Sizing / Measuring

It is extremely important you follow our measuring video and order the size you need based on your measurement, not pants size. All of men's pants are labeled 2-4 inches smaller than what they actually measure. Please see our measuring video below or checkout or measuring page here.

The size that you choose for your order will be the middle setting on the buckle straps (i.e. a size 36 adjusts up to just over 37.5 and down to just below 34.5). We recommend ordering the size you measure.

You MUST measure in order to get the correct size. DO NOT use your pants or jeans size to determine your kilt size.

Length Measurement:

This really is personal preference.  While some say that a kilt, traditionally speaking, should come to high knee, we firmly believe that you should order what is comfortable.  A good rule we recommend following if you are new to kilts is going with what your current pair of shorts are.  If they are high, mid, or low knee, use them to figure out how long you want it and measure to that point.

Returns

If you follow our measuring video in the videos section below, you will get a kilt that fits.  Because this is a custom order item it is not eligible for returns or exchanges due to mis-measuring.

Select your preferred tartan color from the dropdown box labeled "Choose From ... Options Here," which displays images of the available tartans.

Hose Flashes, Fly Plaid, and Ladies' Sash

  • Matching Tartan Flashes: Worn with kilt socks for both casual and formal events. We highly recommend ordering them with your kilt, as they may not be available later.
  • Fly Plaid: Traditionally worn over the left shoulder with a kilt jacket, ideal for formal occasions.
  • Ladies' Sash: Versatile in style, commonly draped over the shoulder and pinned near the hip.

If you anticipate needing any of these accessories, it's best to order them with your kilt to ensure a perfect fabric match, as future orders may vary in dye lot.
