How to measure for a special order utility kilt
For Men's or Women's Kilts
Do not use previous kilt sizing or pant sizing to order. Whether it is your first time or 10th time ordering a kilt, you want to measure as if it was the 1st.
Waist Measurement:
Because some of our utility kilts have an adjustable waist you must follow these sizing instructions exactly:
Standard, Standard II, and Deluxe Utility Kilts: Order the size measured. Do not change it up or down. Each kilt has an extra set of snaps on the waist to adjust up 1 inch or down one inch.
Ultimate Utility Kilts: Order the size measured. The size you order will be the smallest size the comfort was can go. The elastic in the comfort waist will adjust up 2 inches comfortably. It will adjust up slightly more than that but it is not recommended, though once you go beyond the 2 inches you do start to feel the elastic stretching around your waist. It also has the additional snaps on the waist to adjust up or down 1 inch.
Athlete: Order the size measured. This style does have a velcro waist that will accommodate some quite a bit adjustment.
Wild Outdoor/Wilderness Utility Kilts: Order the size measured. With the Velcro you can, literally, have huge adjustments either way. However, we recommend not going beyond 2 inches up or down of the measured waist size.
Length Measurement:
This really is personal preference. While some say that a kilt, traditionally speaking, should come to high knee, we firmly believe that you should order what is comfortable. A good rule we recommend following if you are new to kilts is going with what your current pair of shorts are. If they are high, mid, or low knee, use them to figure out how long you want it and measure to that point.
Returns
If you follow our measuring video in the videos section below, you will get a kilt that fits. Because this is a custom order item it is not eligible for returns or exchanges due to mis-measuring.
How to measure for a kilt with out measuring the waist.
We DO NOT recommend ordering a special order kilt without measuring. Because these are not eligible for returns, if you get the incorrect size, you will end up with a kilt that you can't return and possibly not be able to use.

Each kilt is made using woolen wool in a medium-heavy weight tartan, providing the classic feel, appearance, and character often associated with Highland wear. Whether representing family heritage, a clan connection, or simply a favorite tartan, this made-to-order option provides the flexibility to create a kilt that feels uniquely yours.
Special order kilts are custom made to your selected tartan, waist size, and length specifications. Please allow additional production time for made-to-order items.
Waist Measurement:
Follow these instructions exactly:
- Standard, Standard II, Deluxe Utility Kilts: Order your actual measured size. Each has extra snaps to adjust 1 inch up or down. If you're between sizes, order up for a looser fit or down for a snugger fit.
- Ultimate Utility Kilts: Order your measured size. This is the smallest size the comfort waist will go. The elastic stretches up 2 inches comfortably (slightly more if needed, but not recommended). Extra snaps adjust 1 inch up or down.
- Athlete & Wild Outdoor/Wilderness Kilts: Order your measured size. Both have Velcro waists that allow large adjustments. However, we recommend staying within 2 inches of your measured waist for the best fit.
Length Measurement:
This is personal preference, but we suggest wearing your kilt to the point on your knee that feels most comfortable—whether high, mid, or low knee.

Returns:
If you follow our measuring video below, you’ll get a proper fit. These are custom orders and can’t be returned or exchanged for sizing mistakes.

Fabric
All tartans are made from woolen wool. The available tartans are the only ones we currently offer; we do not do custom tartans for individual kilts.
This item is a special order, custom made item. It is not in stock. it can take up to 10 weeks to arrive, though we try to keep the average to 4-5. Once it is finished, typical shipping is 2-3 days (though it can take up to 5 in some rare cases). Optional 2 day and overnight shipping is available. Prices can be seen in your cart or at checkout.
