Iconic colours of Scotland’s landscape.

Inspired by the history of The House of Edgar and iconic colours of Scotland’s landscape, the Seventeen Eighty Three collection captures place and time beautifully – pulling from tradition while looking to the future. Woven from 100% pure new wool and available in 28 new designs and one very special recreation of the Glen Affric tartan:

This tartan has been created based on the oldest known piece of tartan found in a peat bog.  It was uncovered about 40 years ago and was just recently confirmed as the oldest piece of tartan from Scotland.  It dates back between 1500-1600.  A detailed analysis of the piece and working with House of Edgar allowed the tartan to be re-woven with what more than likely was the correct coloring of the original piece.  Be part of Scottish culture with a kilt in the colors of tartan that is between 400 and 500 years old!

At UT Kilts we have always tried to give the lowest price we could and still offer an amazing, long lasting product. In all of our products, utility or traditional, we feel like we have met that goal. However, we have also wanted to expand our tartan selection so anyone could get their favorite clan or fashion tartan. We have been hesitant since the cost can jump significantly (anyone that has done any research knows this first hand). With this new product offering we believe we have found a way to keep costs down as much as possible while still offering an amazing kilt with Scottish woven tartans.

Includes the historic Glen Affric Tartan.

Sizing / Measuring

It is extremely important you follow our measuring video and order the size you need based on your measurement, not pants size. All of men's pants are labeled 2-4 inches smaller than what they actually measure. Please see our measuring video below or checkout or measuring page here.

The size that you choose for your order will be the middle setting on the buckle straps (i.e. a size 36 adjusts up to just over 37.5 and down to just below 34.5). We recommend ordering the size you measure.

You MUST measure in order to get the correct size. DO NOT use your pants or jeans size to determine your kilt size.

Length Measurement:

This really is personal preference.  While some say that a kilt, traditionally speaking, should come to high knee, we firmly believe that you should order what is comfortable.  A good rule we recommend following if you are new to kilts is going with what your current pair of shorts are.  If they are high, mid, or low knee, use them to figure out how long you want it and measure to that point.

Returns

If you follow our measuring video in the videos section below, you will get a kilt that fits.  Because this is a custom order item it is not eligible for returns or exchanges due to mis-measuring.

Choosing a Tartan

You must choose a color in the box above labeled "Choose From ... Options Here".  It is the box with the picture of the different tartans.

Hose flashes, Fly plaid. and Ladies Sash

Matching tartan flashes - Worn with kilt socks from day events to evening and formal events.  We highly recommend you order these with your kilt.  You won't be able to get them later on.

The fly plaid is worn with a kilt jacket over the left shoulder. Typically it is only worn for very formal events.

The Ladies sash can be worn in many different ways, but is most commonly worn over the shoulder and then pinned near the hip.

It is recommended to order these now if you ever think you will want them. Ordering them later is possible (with the exception of the flashes), but they may or may not be from the same die lot of fabric you currently have.

This item is a special order, custom made item. It is not in stock. it can take up to 16 weeks to arrive (on rare occasions longer), though we try to keep the average to 8-12. Once it is finished, typical shipping is 2-3 days (though it can take up to 5 in some rare cases). Optional 2 day and overnight shipping is available. Prices can be seen in your cart or at checkout. If you need a rush order done or overnight delivery for Saturday, please reach out to us directly using our contact page.
