How to measure for a special order traditional kilt

For Men's or Women's Kilts

Do not use previous kilt sizing or pant sizing to order.  Whether it is your first time or 10th time ordering a kilt, you want to measure as if it was the 1st.

Sizing / Measuring

It is extremely important you follow our measuring video and order the size you need based on your measurement, not pants size. All of men's pants are labeled 2-4 inches smaller than what they actually measure. Please see our measuring video below or checkout or measuring page here.

The size that you choose for your order will be the smallest setting on the buckle straps (i.e. a size 36 adjusts from a 36 up to just under a 39.5). Depending on where you want the buckle to end on your waist will determine your size. A good rule of thumb to follow is to go down 1-2 inches from your measured waist size. That will put you in the middle of the buckle straps (i.e. 39 or 40 measured would order a 38).

You MUST measure in order to get the correct size. DO NOT use your pants or jeans size to determine your kilt size.

Returns

If you follow our measuring video above you will get a kilt that fits. Because this is a custom order item it is not eligible for returns or exchanges due to mis-measuring.

Length Measurement:

This really is personal preference.  While some say that a kilt, traditionally speaking, should come to high knee, we firmly believe that you should order what is comfortable.  A good rule we recommend following if you are new to kilts is going with what your current pair of shorts are.  If they are high, mid, or low knee, use them to figure out how long you want it and measure to that point.

Returns

If you follow our measuring video in the videos section below, you will get a kilt that fits.  Because this is a custom order item it is not eligible for returns or exchanges due to mis-measuring.

How to measure for a kilt with out measuring the waist.

We DO NOT recommend ordering a special order kilt without measuring.  Because these are not eligible for returns, if you get the incorrect size, you will end up with a kilt that you can't return and possibly not be able to use.

This map of the clans and families of Scotland is a must for any Scottish household. Printed on the highest quality paper, it would decorate the wall of any home magnificently. It is shipped in a sturdy tube that will make sure it is frame ready the moment you receive. The printer of this piece of work states the following: "By Gill Humphreys. This map shows the battle sites, the Declaration of Arbroath, the Raising of the Standard and the locations of near to two hundred and fifty of the major Clans and Battlefields. Also included are miniature portraits of William Wallace, Prince Edward, Charles Stuart and Robert the Bruce. The map shows the approximate location of two hundred and seventy of the most common Scottish surnames. It gives a general idea of where the main clans were located but near the main towns and cities the names have been necessarily compressed. The earliest accurate records began after the Norman conquest of England in 1066. Although Scotland remained unconquered and a sovereign and independent state until after the Act of Union in 1707 the invading Edward I initiated "The Ragmen Roll" in 1296. This was a list of mainly lowland Scots nobility, landlords and civic authorities. The names on the map are either mentioned in "The Ragman Roll" or else are taken from the earliest possible reference to a particular individual from the relevant district."

Fly plaid and Ladies Sash

The fly plaid is worn with a kilt jacket over the left shoulder. Typically it is only worn for very formal events.

The Ladies sash can be worn in many different ways, but is most commonly worn over the shoulder and then pinned near the hip.

It is recommended to order these now if you ever think you will want them. Ordering them later is possible, but they may or may not be from the same die lot of fabric you currently have.
