What is a tartan?
A tartan is a patterned fabric made up of intersecting horizontal and vertical stripes that create a repeating design of colors and lines. These patterns, known as setts, are created through a specific weaving process that produces a distinctive and recognizable look. Tartan is most commonly associated with Scottish dress, particularly kilts, and has historically been linked to clans, regions, or organizations. While traditional tartans carry historical and cultural significance, tartan today is also used more broadly in fashion and design.
