A great kilt, also known as a belted plaid or féileadh mòr, is an early form of the kilt made from a large, full-length piece of tartan fabric that was wrapped and belted around the body. Unlike modern kilts, it included both a lower portion worn around the waist and an upper portion that could be draped over the shoulder or head for protection against weather. Great kilts were traditionally worn in the Highlands of Scotland and were valued for their versatility, serving as both clothing and a blanket, and are defined by their full length, simple construction, and historical use before the development of the modern tailored kilt.
