How To Measure for a Utility Kilt

Measure every time!

Using pants size or other kilt sizing will result in a kilt that does not fit correctly.

GlenLoch, GlenCrae, GlenTorin Utility Kilts

Order the size you measure. If you’re between sizes, order down for a snug fit or up for a looser fit. Each kilt has two snap settings to adjust 1 inch up or down.

Ultimate Utility Kilts

Order the size you measure. If you’re between sizes, go down (e.g. a 37″ waist should order size 36). Each kilt has two snap settings for a 1-inch adjustment up or down. Plus, the flexible comfort waist expands up to 2 inches beyond whichever snap setting you’re using—giving you added flexibility and comfort.

Wild Horizon and Athlete Utility Kilts

Order your measured waist size. The adjustable Velcro waist allows for a comfortable fit, even if you’re between sizes—either sizing up or down will still work.

Estimating Utility Kilt Size from Pants

If you cannot measure the person directly, measure the waistband of a pair of pants that fits them well. The actual waistband will usually measure 3–4 inches larger than the labeled jeans size, although smaller sizes may be closer to 2 inches larger.

If you cannot take any measurements, a reasonable estimate is to choose a kilt two sizes larger than their jeans size—for example, a 40-inch jeans size would suggest a size 44 kilt.

This is only an estimate. Measuring the person directly will always provide the most accurate fit.

⚠️ Pants size ≠ kilt size. Measure to avoid returns!

The Finishing Piece for a Complete Highland Outfit.

Our Premium Fly Plaid is made from the same woolen wool as our traditional kilts, ensuring a consistent and accurate match. Worn over the left shoulder and secured through the epaulette of a Prince Charlie or Argyll jacket, it is often paired with a plaid brooch to complete the formal Highland look. Cut in a traditional square and fully fringed on all sides, it hangs properly and moves naturally with the garment. The tartans are designed to align with our in-stock woolen wool kilts, making it easy to create a complete, coordinated outfit.

Measures approximately 54 x 54 inches, providing the proper coverage and drape expected for a traditional fly plaid.
